The Chippy Tour: International Chippies: Hidden Gems Around the World

Updated: Jan 21

I would love to sample chippies in other countries for review. Although I have eaten fish and chips in many countries, I hadn't thought of creating reviews until the advent of The Chippy Tour so I won't miss those opportunities again!

I'm passionate about showcasing the diverse range of offerings available globally. This blog post will explore some of these hidden gems and highlight their unique flavours and experiences.

Australia: Australia may be known for its stunning beaches and wildlife but boasts incredible chippies. From the iconic Sydney Fish Market to local fish and chip shops in Melbourne, you can find fresh seafood options with perfectly crispy chips. Don't forget to try the classic Australian twist of adding chicken salt to your chips!

I have tried many fish varieties at a fantastic chippy in Perth, Western Australia "At Cicerello’s, we have spent over 100 years fortifying fish ‘n’ chips. Founded by fishing pioneers, we carry their ethos and spirit into every unique experience that we share with our customers." they are proud to state. However, it's been a long time since I was there, and I would love to give it a review on another visit.

New Zealand: Also has its fair share of chippies. You can indulge in the famous "fish and chips" in New Zealand while enjoying the breathtaking scenery. Whether in Auckland, Wellington, or Christchurch, fish and chip shops serve delicious battered fish, hand-cut chips, and mouthwatering seafood burgers.

Canada: Fish and chips may have originated elsewhere, but Canada has put its spin on this classic dish. In coastal cities like Vancouver and Halifax, you'll find chippies that offer a fusion of worldwide flavours. From poutine-topped chips to fish tacos, these Canadian fish and chip shops will satisfy your cravings.

South Africa: If you find yourself in South Africa, seek out their unique take on fish and chips. Cape Town, in particular, is known for its vibrant food scene, and you'll find fish and chip shops that offer a fusion of flavours influenced by the country's diverse cultural heritage, including biltong-flavored chips.

Japan: While Japan may not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of fish and chips, the country has its version of this beloved dish. In Tokyo, chippies serve up tempura-battered fish and crispy sweet potato chips. It's a delightful fusion of Japanese and British flavours worth trying.

These are just a few examples of the hidden gems in international fish and chip shops. As The Chippy Tour continues to expand and include international reviews, I look forward to discovering even more unique and delicious offerings from around the world.

Stay tuned for future updates, and join us in supporting traditional fish and chip shops locally and internationally.
